How it works

ReadyNASXtras provides add-ons for the ReadyNAS product lines on a "pay per download" basis. That means you have to pay a small fee (usually less than $3 USD) before you can get to the download link for the particular add-on you chose. Now you may ask:

Why do I have to pay?

In a nutshell: to help keep this site alive and to encourage the authors of the add-ons to build more of the stuff that helps you to get more out of your ReadyNAS. Now you may think: "Well said, but ...

Why not ask for donations?

Been there, done that. As nice as it sounds, donations just don't work. To give a real life example: The average donation ratio is 500:1 - which means for every 500 downloads there is a donation. Mostly in the range from $1 to $2.50 USD. That doesn't even pay for the server rent. Paying a small amount, however, doesn't really hurt anyone but it really helps to keep the site afloat and the developers happy, since they can afford the urgently needed coke and pizza for the next project. So, if you're still with us, you may now say: "Ok, I got it but ...

How does it work?

That's easy. Just click on your one of the ReadyNAS product lines on the front page. This will take you to an (ever growing) list of add-ons you can choose from. For every add-on there's a page explaining what it does (and maybe does not), describing installation and usage and - last but not least - there's a "Check out with PayPal" button. Once you click on it, you'll be taken to a Paypal checkout page for the add-on you selected (make sure it really is the add-on you want - we're just humans so we're prone to error, too). Once you payed the small fee for the download you'll be taken to a page with the download link. In addition an email will be sent to you, containing the link as well. The link is valid for 60 minutes only. So please make sure to download the file as soon as possible. Also make sure to store the file in a safe location. If you lose it, you'll have to pay again. The same is true for updates. If you want a newer version, you have to pay again. The only exception to that rule is if you find a bug and report it. In that case you as the reporting user will get a fixed version for free.
